par Gourrie-Allegra Loise,
She studies workplace culture and more specifically, she brought up the concept of ”Caring Leadership” where she describes 9 behaviors leaders can adopt for employees to feel valued, heard and supported by their leaders.

She found that caring leaders were bringing a higher engagement, loyalty and productivity among their teams since she saw that loyalty and performance were strongly tied to the care they get. She, in fact, saw that this kind of leadership would enhance the productivity by 1.7.

To be a caring manager, we need to prove implication by bringing an active listening on the employees concerns, show empathy and recognize the employees’ contributions regularly.

But this kind of leadership has its boundaries. Indeed, caring leadership works best in organizations that allow managers to have the time and the space to practice caring leadership. It also works less where managers have less autonomy in their work and in the results they are supposed to get. Finally, caring about other people, and here, our employees, requires authenticity in our actions and words, faking it would only increase the distrust in their leader.
