Privatising a Company
This is essentially a question of how much government involvement we want in a market.
Are we willing to trust the market to take social responsibility and, through innovation and competitiveness, create an even better product?
Or do we believe the market will simply follow an egoistic, profit-driven logic?
With these two positions in mind—and with a measure of trust in the market that we all live and participate in every day—the answer becomes clear.
When has a government-owned company ever brought forth something truly new, something that changed the way we live, or more importantly, something that set us on a sustainable path for the future?
Rarely, if ever.
Such companies often survive only through government support rather than being driven to real change, or they cling to the illusion that they have the willingness and ability to take the necessary risks to lead us forward—especially in today’s digital world.
I therefore strongly advocate for privatization.
Let the market, together with its consumers—that is, all of us—take charge of the urgent infrastructure questions that will define our future competitiveness.
