The main reason why there are less investment by start ups in internet retail, software and social/platform softwares is because of the big industries such as Amazon, Google or Facebook, which have being dominating the online market so when they discover an innovation or a new idea of start up they just buy them so they could not compete with them and they ended investing on them for a while or just letting them die immediately and taking their code and put it in their own apps, so it is out of question invest in a start up if it will be obviously own by one of those big companies.
