This course uses Moot Courts (simulated court cases) to help you:

  • Learn the principles of English Criminal Law.

  • Practise legal analysis and advocacy in English.

  • Develop both legal reasoning and oral communication skills.

Moot Courts are assessed exercises where you act as a lawyer in a fictional case. You will argue either for the Prosecution or the Defence, applying the law to the given facts.

Each Moot lasts around 20 minutes (5 minutes per lawyer). Sometimes the judge may allow rebuttals, extending the time. There are normally no witnesses or cross-examination, unless permitted by the judge.
